Our Story

Seht, meaning friendship and peace, is a brand built on shared values of modesty--not only in the way we dress, but modesty and mindfulness in the way we consume clothing and in the way we treat the people that make our clothes and the impact on the planet.

The brand was born out of our founder's struggle to find modest pieces that were fashion-forward, innovative, and luxurious--an antithesis, so to speak, to the mass produced polyester maxi dresses that currently saturate the modest wear market.

Seht was founded by Kulsoom Haq, a veteran of the New York fashion industry. Holding a Fashion Design degree from Parsons, she has worked with the likes of Evening Wear designer Bibhu Mohapatra, Zac Posen, J. Mendel, and Calvin Klein. Thus, Seht, her debut independent collection, situates itself uniquely in the world of luxury modest wear.

All of our materials are thoughtfully sourced from New York and Europe, sharing the same fabrics from luxury brands like Marc Jacobs and Brandon Maxwell. All production is traceable, made in the heart of the Garment District in NYC. This ensures everyone who touches your Seht garment is treated with dignity, paid a fair living wage, and is honored as an artisan and craftsman, skilled at their trade.

We take special care in the fit and quality of each garment to ensure you are receiving a long lasting garment--your Seht piece will come with Care Instructions, helping you to preserve your special piece for years to come.

If you look closely, you will notice the interior of your garment is just as beautiful as the exterior. We look to the tradition of Haute Couture, literally meaning “High sewing” in French, to inform the construction and finishings of the garment. When you invest in a Seht garment, you are receiving a luxury garment to be treasured and to be worn again and again--an heirloom, so to speak.

Our ethos: modesty in consumption (buy less), investment in timeless well-considered pieces, and wearing them more often.

Limited, One-Time Drops

Some of our garments are made using Deadstock fabric our designer hand carried with her from Paris! Deadstock fabric is remaining yardage from other companies and brands that would be thrown away if not repurposed. Using deadstock fabric keeps these fabrics from going into landfills. The deadstock fabrics we have chosen for this drop are luxurious natural fibers like 100% wool and 100% silk.

Using Deadstock fabric emphasizes our business model of Limited, one time drops. This means when we release a collection, we will never release those same styles in that same fabric again, ensuring you are buying a uniquely exclusive garment.

Preorder

Our debut Winter 2024 collection will launch as a preorder business model. Preordering a garment is an opportunity to secure the exact product you want, before it’s even made, ensuring you are not just another customer, but a valued part of the creation process.

In a world where resources are finite and the impact of our choices weigh heavily on the planet, adopting a preorder business model contributes to a more conscious and sustainable future. By committing to products before they are made, we help eliminate the wasteful practices of overproduction, excess inventory, and eventual discardment of excess inventory in landfills.

With preorder, the emphasis shifts from mass production to mindful creation where every resource such as raw materials and labor is used efficiently. In lieu of fast fashion consumption, preorder fosters a slower, more deliberate way of engaging with the garments we buy.

This model also supports our local artisans who can create in harmony with demand, not in opposition to it, preserving the integrity of their craft and ensuring fair labor practices.

By preordering, you’re not only guaranteeing your place in line for a unique, carefully crafted item, you’re also helping to shape its production, ensuring it’s made with intention, care, and without excess waste. Preordering allows us to predict demand and produce only necessary quantities, reducing waste and overproduction.
